I strive for my work to both conceptually and phenomenologically engage the public on various levels. The site is almost always part of the equationŠ.an added voice to the discussion that provides additional history, layers and meaning. Whether that site is within nature or a highly urbanized environment there is always meaning in the place.

Another part of the equation is the public, the viewer, the participant. Originally trained in the theatre, I see the artwork not just about objects at a location, but as spaces and volumes to manipulate and about the relationships and choreography between the environment and the public. It is also about the hierarchy of experience, what is seen and experienced in what order. How does time and the movement of people or the artwork vary the perception of the piece.

And then there is me; the trickster, scientist, scenographer, educator and magician that loves to reveal or find that point of transformation of knowledge or perceptionŠ.that ah ha moment where the non verbal link is made or felt. I enjoy connecting the celestial to our micro universes and then always linking back to the viewer. It is within that magical and liminal gap that I see my strength.

Originally trained as a theatrical set and lighting designer, Dan Corson now creates public art in a variety natural and built environments. His history of using light creeps into most of his work, although he is not bound by that medium. Whereas his history of work had been comprised mostly of environmental installations and ephemeral work, his current focus is mainly on creating large-scale, highly integrated public art. His projects have ranged from Rail Stations and busy public intersections to quiet interpretive buildings and meditation chambers. Often his work employs engaging visceral "experiences" that envelop the viewer to help draw them into the artwork- sometimes as a co-creator.
